A quick casting update: according to a recent interview with CultBox, British actor Simon Fisher-Becker has been cast in season two of Game of Thrones. Here is the relevant quote:
Speaking exclusively to CultBox earlier today, Fisher-Becker revealed: “I’m doing a couple of episodes of Game of Thrones soon, it’s all very exciting. I’m a High Priest. Exciting times!”
Of course, the priests in the world of Westeros are called septons. So it looks like Fisher-Becker will be filling the role of the High Septon. The High Septon is basically the pope of the faith of the Seven. Fisher-Becker is perhaps best-known for his recent guest role as Dorium Maldovar on Doctor Who. You may also recognize him as the Hufflepuff house ghost Fat Friar from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
Winter Is Coming: Not much to add here. Looks about how I imagined him. Will wait for official confirmation from HBO before adding him to our cast gallery, but it looks legit.

And another Doctor Who alum gets cast.
He looks perfect, but this is likely a one-shot guest role. Nothing to write home about.

I have this feeling 80% of the crew has met either the Doctor or Harry Potter. Or both, lol.
As a DW/HP fan, I approve it :)

It’s POSSIBLE that he’s playing some Qartheen priest, or even a priest of R’hllor…I don’t think it’s likely, because he seems to fit the description for the High Septon, but he didn’t really confirm it…

My only disappointment that he doesn’t play an even bigger role… the actor is fantastic.

I wonder if this means we’ll be getting Lollys too? Boy if we get a Lollys cast before Meera and Jojen this place may explode.

Apologies if this has been said a million times before, but: for all the people going “why haven’t they announced Meera & Jojen yet if they announced all these minor characters”, please keep in mind that casting announcements only happen after all the contract details have been nailed down so that they’re 100% sure they’ve definitely got the actor, and I’m guessing that’s a little trickier when they’re trying to get someone for multiple seasons in a non-leading role. Of course that could also be a reason for them to just drop some of those characters or push them into next season; I’m just saying you can’t really take the lack of a casting report as a strong clue one way or the other.
And that’s if they even bother announcing them at all; this news about the High Septon, like many of the announcements we’ve seen recently, didn’t come from HBO. There’s really been very little in the way of official anything from HBO this fall. Maybe they just figure they’ve already got everyone’s attention and they can relax on the PR a little.

Ups! Yeah, you are right..
ZagiQuote Reply
He would also make an awesome Lord Manderly. Mayhaps it’s a shame that they didn’t save him up for that role. :D

Yes! I was totally picturing him as Manderly when I was reading book 5. Oh well.

mummer,
there’s a girl on twitter constantly saying she wants to play meera, and to me, based on her photos on twitter, she looks perfect. but she’s american, so they’d probably not consider her
ral84Quote Reply
What’s her twitter name ?
JohnQuote Reply
I don’t care that much about Meera and Jojen…they could even be written out altogether with just a little bit of effort.
Ygritte is the big surprise they’re holding back. I mean, she HAS to already be cast…right?
stileQuote Reply
John,
writing from my phone and i don’t follow her, so i’ll have to find it later on. her name is laura and what i saw was a few tweets saying she loved meera etc and some photos, but she really had the green eyes and a young face but as i recall her hair was a bit lighter than i had pictured meera’s
ral84Quote Reply
I’m anxiously awaiting this casting news. I agree that it’s likely she’s already cast, I wish they’d share the news.

Rose Leslie. Looking forward to seeing her face on season 2 WiC casting list.
Edit: I’m just manifesting reality.
Epic Vidi ViciQuote Reply
Ramsay is a lot more important than Ygritte. Ygritte’s sole purpose is to be a short lived love story for Jon, Ramsay is important to the plot from A Clash of Kings on. I’d much rather they cut Ygritte than Ramsay.
AdrianQuote Reply
Ygritte changes Jon’s entire conception of himself, wildlings, the Nights Watch, and the world in general…
Ramsay Bolton is an important character later on, but I didn’t even notice him in the second book. I’m not saying they should cut him…they ought to expand his role, like they did with Renly, so that you know who he is when he starts doing important things later.
Cutting Ygritte would be like cutting Drogo. Sure, he doesn’t stick around all that long, but he shapes Dany’s entire character. Without her, Jon doesn’t get any character development in the second season.
stileQuote Reply
He could still hang out with wildlings without being in love with one. And it’s TV, you really can’t get inside his head the way you do in the book. For that reason I’ll take cool plot progression over brief internal developmental period any day of the week.
AdrianQuote Reply
In an Emmy Awards interview GRRM mentioned that we would see Ygritte this season.

Don’t give a rats ass about Ygritte but I wouldn’t mind knowing if Mance, Tormund and Quorin Halfhand are going to be cast.

Ygritte will be played by Alice Henley.
You’ve heard it here first!
My sources: Oh wouldn’t you like to know!
Joshua TaylorQuote Reply
Uhhhhm… maybe cut back on the Ygritte related spoilers, or at least spoiler tag them?
Tyler MarcetQuote Reply
Tyler Marcet,
What spoilers, exactly? That she exists?
AdrianQuote Reply
Adrian,
that she has a short story line, it’s actually quite a big spoiler when you think of it. Same as all the people talking about Ramsay, while the fact that Reek is Ramsay is one of the major reveals of book 2, so another big spoiler right there.
KnurkQuote Reply
In my mind, divulging her “whole purpose” before Jon has even stepped foot north of the wall is a bit spoilery. I wouldn’t have wanted to know that before I even started to read the second book. Apologies if that seems hypersensitive, but it stood out to me so I just assumed (perhaps wrongfully so) that it might also stand out to someone new to the series :)

We have got to get Jojen and Meera. Story doesn’t work without them. We also have to have Reek,(please stop saying Ramsay) Mace Tyrell, Qhorin Halfhand, Ygritte, Rattleshirt and Strong Belwas. It’s bad enough they cut Aeron Greyjoy they shouldn’t cut any of the other important characters from ACoK. Though as someone pointed out Rattleshirt and Strong Belwas may not be cast yet as they only appear in one episode.
WinterdarkQuote Reply
Winterdark,
Meh. Aeron really isn’t THAT important. His character is easily interchanged with any random Drowned God Chief Priest. Him being a brother adds very little to the story in my opinion. Yeah, gives some tension between him Victarion and Euron, but Victorian and Euron are the main show.
Starky StarkQuote Reply
I guess I can see what you mean, he might not be that important after all. It is probably more logical to see him for the first time in season 5(the season I think will correspond to AFfC) since that will probably also be the first time we see Victarion and Euron. I still believe that we do really need the other characters though.
WinterdarkQuote Reply
Winterdark,
I agree, I can’t wait to laugh at some of Strong Belwas’ one liners! and upon my first glance of Ramsey, my TV might just melt due to all the blazing concentrated hate I’ll be focusing on it. We definitely have some GREAT scenes awaiting us as fans.

I don’t know much about this actor, but yeah, I can see him playing the High Septon. I was starting to believe they were going to cut his role (as while he takes part in the mob scene, I doubt the audience cares about him nearly as much as Sansa or the Hound, or even the Tandas who we’ve already met by this point), and his part could easily be handled just by talking about him or as background information. But he exists now, and that’s awesome.
And as to the Aeron thing, his scenes in Clash didn’t seem all that important, holding him back until Feast doesn’t seem completely story-breaking.

Yeah, I’m a long time lurker whose only been posting for a couple of months, now I see where the tool remark comes from: Perhaps instead of mentioning I have sources (ie: none) I will say “It is Known” instead as it seems to be the fanboy way of saying “I am merely hoping it is so” or “I predict this…”
Just a prediction folks, did not mean to stir the hornets nest. I am a mild mannered newbie internet commenter who has learned a lesson in discretion. I was not trying to be a tool or a troll (I fight trolls!).
What say you fellow WICers? The Goat? All is forgiven?

The mob scene on the street in Croatia is looking good now, with this new addition. I still wonder if they’ll find a Lollys for the scene as well. Might as well find one now, since she does play a larger role later on for Bronn’s character.
As for Manderly, I hoping that Ian McNeice is free to play the part. He’s going to be in the Mystery of Edwin Drood TV series next year; but maybe he’ll have some free time in his schedule. Several other actors in that series, including our first Dany, Tamzin Merchant. It also has Amber Rose Revah, who I think would make a great Arianne Martell and Sacha Dhawan who might be a great Daario Naharis.
LangkardQuote Reply
Sure it’s not Thoros of Myr?
SteveQuote Reply
Big fat aye for Ian McNiece as Manderly. He is perfect for that part. Also I, don’t know Amber Rose Revah but she looks just I like I pictured Arianne. As for Sacha Dhawan, it could work. Josh Parker suggested Oded Fehr for the part whom I find better suited but if he’s to expensive Dhawan might be a good option .
WinterdarkQuote Reply
Langkard,
Ian McNiece and Amber Rose Revah look great for the roles you suggested, but i can’t see Sacha Dhawan as Daario. I saw Daario as a more Morroccan/Algerianesque look. Oded Fher would be perfect, in my opinion!
Oh and Simon Fisher-Becker looks great for the High Septon. I love cast announcements!!!!

Meanwhile, filming in Dubrovnik is continuing, on fortress Bokar.
Here is a video conversation with one of the producers of the series, Frank Doelger, about filming in Dubrovnik and his impressions so far. It’s also said that there alredy has been a talk about filming for next season in advance, but he didn’t quite confirmed that yet. Ay…
So far his impressions are good, and it seems that he’s quite satisfied with Dubrovnik as king’s landing.
